Cynthia,

Thanks for dropping by and giving some feedback on this. Yes, more options for control of messaging should exist. Facebook should enforce design requirements to be part of a universal message opt out for each application. One that perhaps works off of one profile flag for all of them.

I've started blocking apps as I receive invites. You know you can now block app invites from a particular user as well.

Thanks again.

I love the comic! May I repost it with a link to this post?

I'd be much happier if Facebook had a blanket "opt out of all application invites/messages" somewhere. Having it block every single application as you receive nonsense from it is ridiculous. If I say I don't want any Vampire silliness, it stands to reason that I'm also disinterested in Zombies, Werewolves, Pirates, Slayers, and whatever other derivatives come up.

I did turn off the email notifications, but that means that I also don't get friend requests, or notifications of messages from real people. I can't imagine why people won't just send me an actual email, though, or leave a comment on my blog. There's no convenient way to ask people to do that in my profile that I can see, either.

Thanks for the excellent and extensive input on this topic. I find myself focusing on just those games that take little bits of time and low maintenance. I've had gardens, flowers, pets, and even been on the wagon trail again. :)

Few of these hold much satisfaction though. For more productivity, it's best to stick to Backpack and similar sites. It'd be great though if Facebook had some apps like that though, or plug in apps from Zoho or something. Less sites to visit is always better for me.

Thanks again.

So very true. Not that the FaceBook apps aren't enjoyable; but I always felt like the clamor of virtual gardens and pets and snowpeople resembled games of solitaire--yes, they're fun, and I like to play them, but only when I have extra time on my hands. (Haha.)

FaceBook has been a good way for me to keep connected to friends through games, but I find myself neglecting both games AND friends because I'm simply short on time to play.

I value sites that can offer useful tools and efficiency along with the social aspect.

If my virtual puppies wouldn't starve to death on FaceBook, and my profile could include a task scheduler or something of the like...I'd be there a whole lot more often. (And play a round of Scrabulous & draw some graffiti while I'm at it. ;-) )
