Whisper me something good

Communication     Whispers make the world go round, not just shouting.  Why? It’s because a whisper is personal and direct. Communication on that level really works.

Often this is lost in the online world. Everyone is shouting these days.  We’ve gone into broadcast mode more than even communicating directly to an audience of listeners.  It’s like trying to use a shotgun to hit a bullseye. Oh you might get it, but not with the full force of what you want to say.

How can we improve? What’s the best way to focus our effort?  Start whispering!

Whispering online is about communicating with your network.  Whispers can be direct, such as direct messages in Twitter, or small audience, such as posting a pertinent picture to a Flickr group.

Another great way is via your blog and your friends’ blogs.  Focusing your posts to talk to with a smaller group often results in a more conversational opportunity and more dedicated listeners.  Also, commenting on your friends and associates blogs is a great attention getter.

Enthusiasm is important as well.  It’s not enough to tell folks there’s gold in them there hills, but you have to say it like you mean it.

What can you do today?  Get your passion out and exercise it.  I’d like to help you spread your idea, your blog post, your cause.

Drop me a line.  Leave me a comment here about what you want to share about yourself or your work, and let me join your whisper network.  Too shy to post here?  Drop me a DM on Twitter, or call me(636-486-4723) and tell me how I can promote you.  It’ll be fun and interesting for us both.

  • Todd,
One of the projects that's dear to my heart is fundraising for Hands & Voices. We started a project back in 2007 to try and raise funds online via Bring Light. The project is ongoing and I'm now attempting to try and spread the word to meet our goal of $5,000 before the end of this year so we can close that project. Your help would be appreciated. The link: http://www.bringlight.com/projects/show/75

And what can I do for you, in return, friend?
  • Karen, thanks for sharing this fund raiser. I can definitely put it out there. Makes me wonder why it's not received more attention.

As for me? Help keep me aware of those with special needs and .... say kind things about me. I'm sure you can think of something ;)
  • *Drops voice to confidential tone* That's an awesome idea. ;-)

And isn't it the classic way to get attention? I always hear about skilled teachers who can get a rowdy class to listen, just by speaking quietly.

But definitely--speaking directly and with passion is a wonderful way to communicate, in our online lives and in our personal ones, too. :-)
  • I love your reply. Whispers have power. :)
  • Hey, Tojosan, This is a brilliant statement. Thanks for putting yourself here for us..
  • You are quite welcome Liz. Thanks for being you.
  • Very nice piece here. No one uses social media tools better than the San of Tojo! I mean, you ARE a social media tool and I mean that with all due respect and admiration. You get involved and spread the word for many good causes or just to share a friend's hardwork on their post. I like how you take the time to even try to share constructive criticism which shows you took the time to actually read something and care enough to want to help a friend get even better. I try to do that too so I appreciate it.

As for a cause I need help with now? I need all the assistance I can get for promoting that wonderful new service that Damon Dacort put together for Hurricane's Gustav and now Hanna! It's an amazingly useful service that uses twitter and cell phones via SMS! It just needs attention so people will know it's out there. http://hannatracker.appspot.com (look at the top for both links).
Spread the word like you do so well and we could help a great deal of people out there. I can see this type of tool being adapted for all kinds of natural disasters.

Thanks again for all you do, brojosan.

  • Thanks for all of the kind words Pai. I'm pushing out to folks about the Hanna and Gustav trackers.

Remember to poke me when you need me, even if I'm slow on the draw some days. :)
