Amazon doing politics?

Obama vs. McCain on Amazon

Amazon has this running on the side of the main page. What exactly is the deal? Are they selling politics to get folks onto the site? Is it really relevant? How is this supposed to influence my shopping?

As the election draws closer, many blogs and other sites are taking advantage of it to draw traffic.  It seems Amazon is no less susceptible to the desire for hits.  The funny thing is that it’s actually a turn off for me.  I prefer to shop on Amazon, not get my news, politics, or even the weather.

Am I the only one this bothers?

I agree 100% - this type of polling just trivializes the election. The results are meaningless. I don't even think it's funny.
  • Indeed it does trivialize things. Perhaps that's what I like the least about it.
  • I guest Amazon is jumping onto the band wagon. May be they want to be SNL

  • Ha. The next SNL. Now that would be telling.
  • Buying a product is a vote too. So if you don't buy a product, you're not voting for the company that sells it.

This may just be another case of sphaghetti-on-the-wall marketing: let's see if it sticks.

What can I say: desperation is the mother of all things bizarre. (:
  • I hadn't seen the 7-11 thing yet. Yes, it is probably the 'try anything' approach to marketing. But it makes it hard for me to take them seriously. Seems more like something the local party shop would do.

I feel the same way Todd. It is just doing whatever to attract customers ... amazing what folks will do!
