Sometimes it is all too easy to toss in an offhand comment or come across as cranky and short tempered simply because of the nature of the medium. Your post is a reminder to all of us to slow down and take care with the words we use to communicate with one another.

You are so right when you say that online communication can often misrepresent our real intent due to lack of inflection or space constraints. This can lead to confusion, hurt, or simple misunderstanding that was never intended. We all need to not just talk, but communicate and do it effectively no matter where we are and what medium we are using.

great post, as always, todd. I know i'm guilty of the “online tone” occasionally. I think you know what I mean there. It's so easy to sound harsh when you've got no inflection with what you say.
