I'm already considering netbooks or purchasing an iPod Touch. Either or both might be just the right tool.

For the DSLR, I'm thinking I'd still love to have but find a better way to carry it. Small backpack for all maybe?

i ended up leaving my laptop at my “home” for the week. i found using my iphone was a perfect computer for the event. i just had to make sure to bring my power cord and wall adapter block so i could sit next to an outlet and charge mid-day.

i also had a DSLR camera with me.. and that felt a bit much at times.. but since i didn't have a laptop with me, it was a manageable weight. although since i was staying far away from the convention center (not *really* far.. but not a walking distance) i sometimes got stuck with carrying around my “big” camera to the parties, which wasn't very fun at all.

but i totally agree with you on the flip cam thing. next year i may just stick with the flip and a point and shoot. or maybe make arrangements with someone staying closer to “store” my DSLR camera when i don't want to carry that around…

and also it was nice to finally meet you at sxsw this year!

If I ever go (maybe next year), I will need to have an iPhone. Camera, computer, email, it does it all.
