Hot Women, Manly Men, Cold Beer Winning Tweetup

If it looks like a party, it was.  Fun folks, great conversation and cold beer made this a wonderful Tweetup.  Jeffrey Strauss hosted this Twitter get together at the International Tap House in Chesterfield valley. It’s sort of the West County area of St. Louis Metro.

Yeah, that guy with the big grin is me. It was that much fun.

Jeffrey tossed the idea out just days before and it came to pass like clockwork. It was a good turn out with @VersaDave, @SandyShores, @MrShores, @StLConceirgeGuy, @SgtHotPants, @Rebecca_Rene, @donhead, @Nanna_J, and @Dizzy727.  Folks came ready to chat, kick back and share.

The great thing about this tweetup is that Jeffrey isn’t some ‘social media expert’, in fact he’s more a Belgium beer expert; you should ask him. People still have the misguided idea that only the heavy hitters in social networking can put events together, or if not that, then a group has to sponsor. That’s rubbish.

There were get togethers long before there were formal groups or formal leaders. Leaders emerge because they do things like plan events. Anyone can step up and lead.

St. Louis has a burgeoning social networking and media scene. There are lots of great folks doing fun, interesting, and educational events. Big or small, well attended or barely noticed, they still count as events.

Tired of waiting for one of these events to come to your neighborhood? Your peeps aren’t attending those for some reason?

Plan your own. Today. Now.

You’ll be surprised that when you step out, people will come alongside.

(This post inspired by Jeff and those that came before.)

Un-elitist! That's the truth, or it should be.
Heck, in our world today we attach way to much value to 'celebrity' and not enough to who the person is as a human being, friend, comrade or whatever. Being famous doesn't make you someone I'd necessarily want around, but you never know.

Come out and play Kitty!
Love to meet in person at a Tweetup. Heck, like Jeff said, toss out your own tweetup plans. Make the rest of us come to you. Ha.

Mmmm. Espresso-colored beers are the best!

Looks like a great time! Hope to be able to join in on the next one. :-)

Thanks for the shoutout, Todd. But you are absolutely correct! One doesn't have to be a Twitter veteran or social media expert to organize a social gathering of peers-to-be. To me, that is appeal of a medium like Twitter.

In my mind, I envision Twitter as an ongoing cocktail party. Lots of small conversations, lots of opportunities to meet interesting people and learn exciting new things. At first, especially for the more introverted folks among us, this can be quite intimidating. But in truth, for most, it is decidedly un-elitist once you just jump on in.

So anybody else out there who is interested in encouraging increased interaction with the people in your community, stop thinking about it. Just throw out a suggestion, invite a couple friends... the idea will stick.

Dessert beers are my next attempt.
Since we held it after dinner and I skipped dessert to show up. Ha.

We'll see you next time for sure.

I was disappointed that I couldn't make the tweetup this time. Jeff showed me that I could actually enjoy an expresso colored beer at the last ITAP tweetup. Next time I'm there!
