First Communion

Saturday was our oldest granddaughters’ first communion. It was quite something.

The girls, now eight, have been preparing over the last year. Excitement evident in their faces as much as anxiety in their mother’s. No reason to worry though; our daughter-in-law raises them to know The Lord and Jesus. Sharon and I are quite proud of them all.

Beautiful in their dresses and veils they were two among many. Proud parents and families surrounded us. Flashing cameras, rolling video, and just those simply looking on brought a special energy to the chapel.

Leading the service, the Father was passionate. Laying out the ground rules, he kicked off the service. He emphasized the sacredness. Seriousness seemed to rule at first but true joy shown through as he told the story of The Last Supper. Quizzing the children by asking what Jesus drank and what He gave to the disciples, the kids responded with first timidity then laughter as he guided them through the retelling.

Memories of this day will be with our families for years to come. Hopefully the obligation of our witness will abide with us as well. May we continue to raise them up to seek a close relationship with The Lord through Jesus.

Prayers for them and us are welcome. Praise The Lord!
