About pages suck. Yours, mine, that guy’s down the web.

Writing about pages is often done by the same lady that writes the blog posts. Yep, the same guy that writes about inner workings of ceramic ovens wrote his own about page. You can tell.

Follow this About link and find mine. See if you can tell who wrote it. I give you three guesses.

Okay, so here’s the experiment. I’d like a rewrite and I’d like you to do it.

Let’s call it crowd sourcing and spec work. Consider me a customer and I’m looking for the best product at a great price. Problem is, what’s it worth to me. What can I offer the best rewrite?

Payment types: Amazon gift card? Paypal payment? A check in the mail? Something unique and personal?

Payment value: $25, $50, more?

Consider this the pre-work. I’m offering $10 in payment of your choice to one random response as to how to pay and how much seems appropriate. Want in the running? Just comment below and be sure to include a working email address in some way.

So go to it. Drop the ideas. Repeats and remixes on ideas welcome. Invite your friends to drop by and share an idea.

Here's an idea - wiki yourself and have people fill in the blanks.
Start off by making yourself an amazing superhero:
Terrific Todd - or be a ruthless little-known dictator from Missouri: Terrible Todd. Whatever floats your boat.

Then encourage people to visit your wiki and knock you down a peg by dropping in doses of reality. Like how you really don't have the ability to travel at the speed of light or that you never conquered Sweden in 1623.

I am not sure anyone else can write your "About Me" page as well as you can. I read yours and enjoyed it. Somebody else writing it isn't going to have "your voice". It will probably come off sounding like a Wikipedia page - just the facts, ma'am.

I don't know if that advice is worth $10 :-)

My PayPal is my e-mail. I suspect most responders would prefer that sort of payment. Gift cards are nice, but they are impossible to use to the precise penny. So there's either money left over and wasted, or the "winner" has to put out some of their own money to pay above and beyond the gifted amount.

Just being honest - nobody is gonna write an About page on spec.

Unless you're offering multiple hundreds of dollars, it's not worth the time.

If you want your About page rewritten just say "I want my About page rewritten and will pay X amount of dollars to have it done".

An About page is what it is - by definition it needs to be clear and concise. Anything too far outside that box isn't going to function for you.
