Twitter Gave Me Grandchildren

Do you have grand children?

Twitter is amazing for the community. You meet all kinds. Some of you even get married. Be though you’ve not had many grand children spring up that way.

Angebird, @AngeBird, is my Twitter grand child. No, she’s not got my paternal DNA; she’s got my Twitter DNA.  She deserves all the credit for this idea.

We were talking and she mentioned how Karen Goodman, @KarenStL, really got Ange going on Twitter. Karen got her kick start on Twitter from me.  See the connection?

Angebird has my digital DNA.

Concept seem silly? Society and behaviors are influenced both by upbringing and the company kept. Online society works the same way. Each of us is influenced by the one that brought us online in the first place, and then by the network we develop or adopt.

Grand children then would be those influenced one or more levels down in our network.  Angebird would be one of many.  I passed on habits, tools, and methods to Karen, which some of those were passed onto Angebird and others.

Ange will have her digital lifestyle divergent from Karen’s and mine. Already she’s got a unique approach and is nursing along a flock of digital newbies.

What digital DNA are you passing on?

Focused and one on one sharing is the best way to pass knowledge. Teaching something of value is just important. I made sure to concentrate on tools, listening, and not being spammy.

Karen passed on a little about tools but was able to bring her unique business sense to the picture. Her digital behaviors are more adapted to selling and moving folks from ignorance to cheerleader.

Ange is an activist. She quickly adapted the tools to her type of sharing. She’s also a constant spreader of the online bug, bringing new people onto Twitter and Facebook all the time.

Interesting to me though is how each of the attributes their success online to those that brought them into it. Ange to Karen, Karen to me, me to that first guy inviting me to join a BBS so many years ago.

Your network is your family. Who do you give credit to? Who has your digital DNA?

This is an interesting concept, but highly logical and thought provoking. I guess Obama is my Twitter Grandpop because he was the reason I joined Twitter on election day, 2008. I developed my "Twitter way" on my own, as no one else I knew used it. Now I am responsible for several Twitter and Foursquare users, so much so that I am known as the Foursquare pimp. @Glamazini's words, not mine.

Great stuff here, Todd. You always amaze me.

We could just be Twitter cousins lol! Pretty awesome concepts! I'd be curious to see some kind of "Twitter" family tree of sorts. it would be entertaining!

You are MY TWITTER DADDY!!!

Karen, so good to have found you as well. Angela does really give you credit for bringing her along. I'm sure she's brought others along as well.

Thanks for the comment.

Could be or at least a Twitter ancestor. Ha.
It's a cool concept way to look at how Twitter and the network of people grow.

I would have to say you definitely gave me my base for really getting into Twitter. Before I really didn't think much of it...but that changed with you, Threefourteen and a handful of others really got me into it.

Does that mean you're my Twitter Grandpappy then?

I absolutely give you all the credit for me being on twitter and Facebook (which I decided to try a few months after I got into twitter). You taught me the rules of road and how to do for other simply because twitter is a place where we all want to see everyone succeed.

Angela just needed to be introduced to a few folks, and then she ran with it. I don't feel like I really did all that much for her, but am glad she sees me as part of the family!
