Only my mom searches on Google

Online Addict

Notice there’s not browser tab with Google or Bing open?

Searching on Google isn’t #1; people search on Facebook more.

More so, they don’t search at all; they ask.

Mom is old school. She only recently learned to use Google. She starts every online session with the well known search box. Even for getting to Facebook.

She’s always been about connecting with people over trusting the Internet. People over tech.

Yet, with Twitter, Facebook and other online communities, many of us turn to those communities for answers.

Want to know the best bbq in St. Louis? Ask.

Want to find a great hair stylist? Ask.

The more complex the question the easier it’s become to ask instead of search.

Is search dead? No; we’ve just rediscovered neighbors.

Is that what it is? Or is it that people don't know *how* to search? Searching for "the best bbq in St. Louis?" has 8 million results! What do you do with that?

And I will add that I like different BBQ than my family does (for the most part), so their recommendations would have to be disqualified.

hdbbstephen More accurate. More & more folks search w/in Facebook, or directly ask. I've had better luck that way with restaurants.

Tojosan I did an experiment on FB yesterday (https://www.facebook.com/hdbbstephen/posts/10150941603029348?comment_id=25856953) and asked about BBQ places in St Louis. Either I have no friends in St Louis or no one knew the answer or no one cared. So my FB "Search" yielded zero results (except for one smart alec who said "it sounds like a trick question"). Not definitive, but pointing the way to creating a better set of search terms to use on Google...

hdbbstephen Definitely a need for Google search to be more useful.
