Dueling pianos, open bar, and tasty appetizers – now that’s a party. In this case it was a fundraiser for The Gifted Wedding at the Jive and Wail.
The Gifted Wedding is an organization dedicated to giving couples with a terminal illness, disability, or a unique financial situation the wedding or vow renewal of their dreams.
The Gifted Wedding team provided the first dream wedding to Anna and Manuel Jimenez. Anna is struggling with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The Jive and Wail event was both fundraiser and a celebration of the recent wedding.
Jive and Wail provided the right size venue. Their staff was eager and engaged. The bartenders were friendly and kept the drinks flowing. Topping it off was the dueling piano team.

Sharon and I enjoyed our time there, meeting both old and new friends. Elisabeth Cutshall gets the real credit for that though. She publicized this event on Twitter, Facebook, and in person.
Glenda Watson Hyatt is The One Thumbed Blogger and she’s bringing in the new year with another Accessibility 100 series. Kicking it off, Glenda has a project for us.
I encourage you to give this a try. Glenda shares the rules on her post. Here’s my stab at at.
Accessibility, more than a ramp or wide door, is a thoughtfulness in approaching design, considering people not wheelchairs, souls over boundaries, and vision beyond blindness.
It’s rough but I’m thinking I’m going to be dreaming up more of these.
With chapters in New York, Philadelphia, Nashville and Miami, Musicians on Call bring live and recorded music to the bedsides of healthcare facilities. This helps complement the healing process for patients, families and caregivers. This is provided in a number of ways.
Bedside Performance Program
Volunteer artists give live performances in-room for patients that are too ill to leave their beds. To date, Musicians on Call have played for more than 150,000 individuals and their families. They also have 32 regular scheduled weekly performances at 27 facilities throughout the four cities they currently cover.
CD Pharmacy Program
Musicians on Call also provide hospitals with complete CD libraries, as well as personal CD players for the patients to use – all free of charge. Thanks to this, there are currently 310 CD Pharmacies throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Dublin in Ireland.
Project Playback Program
As well as the volunteer artists who help Musicians on Call achieve their aim, the charity also has a program that gives patients the chance to have their own music recorded and produced. By using special software, patients can compose their own songs and work with volunteer professionals – artists, producers and more – and get help in the writing an recording process.

Music has been a part of my life from my earliest years. My parents used music to help get me to sleep. Memories of joy were highlighted by those where I sang along with the music surrounding me. Still today I enjoy this.
Music makes a long drive short, a tough bit of programming less challenging, and a sour mood not quite so sad. I’ve already thought about music I’d like played at my funeral. This charity makes me mindful how I’d miss music if I was stuck in the hospital with illness or old age.
Take time out to visit Musicians on Call. Your donation will bring peace, joy and remembrance to someone stuck alone in a hospital bed.

The photographer and Boobithon.com contributor explains this picture:
I have known so many people in my life who have been affected by cancer.
When I was a senior in high school, a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer. They amputated his leg, but he died a year after we graduated. My sister-in-law, Jana, lost her father to a long, terrible battle with this disease. This past August, an old friend of mine lost his seven year old daughter to cancer.
My dad had a cousin and his wife, JoAnn, was like a mother to me when I was a kid. She died of breast cancer approximately 20 years ago.
I loved my grandma Una with all my heart. I spent almost everyday with her when I was a child. In August of 1993, she died of breast cancer. It still makes me cry to this day.
My aunt Eva had breast cancer when I was a kid and she had to have a mastectomy. She was a breast cancer survivor though. She lived for another 20+ years before she died of other causes about five years ago.
My very best friend in the world is Kirsten. Her mother, Donna, had breast cancer and a mastectomy in 1998. She was in remission for 10 years but was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2008. She had her bladder removed earlier in 2009 and is currently feeling great.
My friend, Kristine, has gone through breast cancer with her mother, Pat. She had a lumpectomy and approximately eight months of chemo afterward. Pat is currently doing beautifully and has been cancer free for about 3 years.
My friend, Roxanne, has been battling breast cancer with her mother, Susan, since last November. I have never met her mother, but Roxanne is fabulous and one of the strongest people I have ever met. Susan is having a very difficult time and my heart just breaks for my friend and her mom.
I had a lump removed from my breast approximately 3 years ago. After the lumpectomy, they finally determined that it was a non-cancerous, Phyllodes tumor. To this day, I feel very lucky, but all of the waiting was very frightening.
My heart aches for people dealing with this horrible disease.
