Short story version for tonight.
- Tuesday afternoon having chest pains.
- Wife takes me to emergency room.
- Blood work. Xray. Questions (dozens).
- Late late admission.
- Late night blood work.
- Early morning blood work.
- IV.
- Stress test – involves imaging w/thalium, treadmill, more imaging.
- Wait. Wait. Wait. (no water, no food) Wait.
- Hours later doctor comes. “the tests are negative” “if it’s not heart problems, what is it?”
- Me: How would I know?
- Lunch arrives moments after I sign discharge papers. I eat half of it anyway.
- Home.
I could tell you stories though about how wonderful the staff was. There might be some cool things I could tell you about the procedures or the equipment. Heck, there’s always the wheel chair rides.
Love though, that’s what I’ll talk about. The pure outpouring I received from friends via Twitter. I couldn’t get on my computer but I had my Blackberry and Twitterberry. Therefore I had my tweeps.
Offers of prayers, positive thoughts, and more came over the ether. Wow. My wife and I were blown away. Folks offered to come to the hospital even.
To compare? I called coworker last night when I found out I was going to be admitted and left message at work. No one called at all today.
I challenge those of you who think Twitter is just about reporting bowel movements and breakfast to honestly put some effort into building relationships and come back and tell me that you can’t do more than that online.

Things a geek dad loves to hear:
I’m the son of an awesome father, Todd Jordan, who really cares for me.
Todd Jordan – The man who has taught me enough to run circles around some computer situations. And enough to also be able to adapt to new computers and technology. Also the man who has taught me discipline to be able to turn the other cheek on stressful times and become the person I am today. Without his guidance, I would surely not be sitting here today.
Computers and Technology have been apart of my life ever since I can remember. My dad, being a Computer Programmer and Data Analyst, has taught me a lot. He taught me how to do the basic of Web-Design when I was in Middle School. He also taught me how to stop problems before they become bigger. And fix problems that have already occurred.
I know he wrote this before his last birthday. He’s now 20. Sadly though he wrote this about me, I’ve been a bit of a nag these last few months. Nagging him to get a better job and take better care of himself. I’d lost sight of my son for seeing a young man. Sigh.
It’s amazing what they learn from us in spite of ourselves isn’t it? He’s honestly a wiz on a computer. Randall has been on a computer since he was old enough to sit at a keyboard on someone’s lap. He was running applications on the command line before folks heard of Windows.
I’m not sure what the lesson here is other than don’t forget your kids. Do your best for them even if they aggravate the life out of you.
Oh wait, let me clarify. Do not get your kid hooked on MMORPGs.

An eternity ago I preordered Seth Godin’s Linchpin and at the same time donated to the Acumen Fund. I received my advance copy of Linchpin as did several of you. Well, I patted myself on the back, am enjoying the book and put that event behind me.
I shouldn’t have.
Surprise, I received a surprise extra copy of Linchpin with a letter from Seth. It reads:
Generosity is a key piece of being an artist. It gives each of us a chance to connect, to make a difference, and to do indispensable work.
You were generous enough to make a donation to Acumen Fund, an organization that focuses on trade, not aid, building communities that work because each member contributes more than they get.
A few weeks ago I sent you a preview copy of Linchpin, as promised. Now, in recognition of your generosity, I’m giving you another. I hope you’ll share this one with someone you care about.
Thanks for the art you bring to your work every day.
Seth
Seth, you’re still a hero. You create; you think; you share.
Seth says share so I’m sharing.
The question for me wasn’t whether to share or not, but how to share it. So I asked my Twitter buds.
They gave me the answer, MuseCrossing aka Christine Lacombe. Christine is one of my earliest connections on Twitter. Cheering me on, keeping an eye and ear out for me, sharing her joys, including me on her struggles, Christine is a friend.
Borders don’t exist online except in our minds. People like her, Glenda Watson, Liz Strauss, and more, they don’t see us versus them. They pour their energy out to those around them without regard to profit or cost.
Thank you Christine. You are a Linchpin!

Christine is MuseCrossing on Twitter. She has a personal blog. Be warned; you will feel something when you visit.

You can buy Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?

My wife escorted me to the hospital for my tonsillectomy. She of course had to scrub in and help.

Regular readers will know that our oldest is off to another deployment to the Middle East. Being there is a lonely business and family can only write so many letters and cards.
I’m reaching out to you for a helping hand. I’d like you to show your support for him and his team, to let them know someone back here cares.
His mailing address is simple. You’ll notice there’s no unit identification, no rank, nor branch. That’s the military’s new take on security.

Box 5
APO, AE

Postage is regular continental US. The typical delay is now under two weeks. We’ve seen it as quick as a week.
He doesn’t know I’m putting out this call for letters and cards. So it might not hurt to mention you know his dad. Ha.
Cards and letters would be great. Of course cookies and candy wouldn’t be turned down.
He’s expected to be there 6 months to a year. I’ll keep everyone posted on that as he knows more.
Favorite things: peanut M&Ms; Donald Duck; customized car stuff (pictures, articles, etc)
Thanks in advance. If you’re not shy, I’d love to get pictures of sent items to post on the blog.
Cheers,
Todd Jordan, proud military father

That young man on the right, that’s my oldest. He’s in the Army, and he’s back in Iraq. We received the email yesterday saying his group arrived safe and sound. They’re at a waiting facility till they are briefed or whatever those Army blokes do while they wait.
Iraq welcomes him back for a second deployment. In the interim he was stationed in Korea for over a year. His wife and three daughters remain at the fort while he deploys. They’re strong ones though, and thankfully much closer than on previous out of country tours.
We are fortunate that we got to hang out with him and the family before the deployment. He seemed in good spirits, and seems to really like the unit he’s attached to. Steven was even showing off his gear for us and let Nanna J try on the vest.

@Nanna_J in Army Vest
The girls know this time that he’s not just ‘at work.’ Thanks to the media and the community they are aware there is a war on over there. Obviously they’re not happy but hopefully they’ll be comfort to their mother.
I’m proud of my son’s choice to stay in the Army even during war time. Sure I’d love him just as much as a baker, banker, or bookkeeper, but he’s a soldier boy for now. My father, and Nanna J’s dad were both in the Navy. I’m a Navy veteran. Now that makes me wonder what the heck he chose the Army for?!
Seriously though, we’ll worry. We pray constantly for him and his family. I pray for my wife as well. Your positive energy, prayers, and words are all welcome.
I plan to ask you to help me flood him with mail during this deployment. Soon I’ll be sharing his mailing address. Your mail would be a welcome treat for him.
Hats off Steven. Stay safe. Love, everyone.

Remember when you got your license and your parents took an ad out in the paper?
Warning, Todd Jordan got his license today. Keep an eye out.
That’s fairly close to what my parents had listed in the local paper anyway. Well this is payback time. My mother is going online!
Charter is running an Internet connection out to her house this week. I’ll be delivering her first computer within the week as well and making it ready for her burst into the Internet scene.
Consider this fair warning. There’ll be another person out there who hasn’t heard of Twitter, won’t understand Facebook and who will be dodging spammers and Nigerian scams with nay a bit of experience.
You’ve been warned. Keep your eyes open and shore up your net bumpers. Together we might make it through the upcoming year. At the end, hopefully I’ll be writing the blog post, “2010: The Year Mom Conquered The Internet.”
Find me on Twitter. Find me on Facebook.
