SuperPoke! Pets Haiti Support, originally uploaded by Tojosan.

Slide, the folks behind Superpoke! Pets, has rolled out some Haiti support items. Most are gold items requiring real dollars to end up purchasing. 100% of all Haiti item purchases will be donated to the American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

From their site:

Hi everyone,

As we’re sure you all know by now, earlier this week the country of Haiti was devastated by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. Our hearts go out to all those affected, and in the wake of this tragic event, Slide and its employees have started a donation pool to aid in the global Haiti relief efforts.

In addition to the contributions we are making, we want to invite the SPP Community to show your support. We just released Haiti-themed coin and gold items in the Pet Shop. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Gold items will be donated to the American Red Cross’ relief efforts in Haiti.

Donating to this cause is only part of what we can do here, though. We can show our support for the people of Haiti the SPP way by using these items to decorate your habitat and send a message of love and goodwill. Share your habitats in this thread, and let’s show how many of our hearts are with Haiti here in the SPP Community!

Thanks everyone. Let’s do our best to help the people of Haiti when they need it most.

Superpoke Pets – Virtual Pets Goes Social

facebook-superpoke-pets-screenshot

So what is this? A cartoon? Not quite; it’s a virtual pet. His name is Notatoy.

Notatoy is my pet persona in the virtual pet game Superpoke Pets by Slide.com. Yep, the same folks that brought you Superpoke on Facebook.

Superpoke Pets isn’t a terribly exciting game, nor it is incredibly challenging as a game.  It is like Tamagotchi online.  The same basics of feeding, play and interacting apply. The added bonus is the social part of it.

Your pet isn’t just enjoyable by you, but your friends as well.  Contacts can play with your pet, feed him and give gifts.  Likewise you can do the same for them.

Along the way you can earn badges for being a big gift giver or receiving lots of gifts.  There are also lots of items to buy for your pet.

Items range from clothes to food, and lots in between. You’ll find lots of backgrounds, and many items to decorate with. I’ve chosen an Asian theme in general, with lamps, background, and even a kimono.

Slide has added new items on a quite regular basis, with special occasion items for all of the recent American holidays.  Heck, they even brought on stuff for Mardi Gras, and the Oscars.

Yes, it’s still a silly little game and it’s on Facebook, but what the heck. It’s a 5 minute time waster that brings nothing but smiles.

Come visit Notatoy.

Yours,

Spore Creature Creator – Dance Video

Spore Creature Creator

SPORE 1 install.jpg

Look what I received for Father’s Day!

Spore Creature Creator Spore Creature Creator is the prelude game to the upcoming Spore game Spore Creature Creator from Will Wright and EA.

The creature creator allows you to design and play with your creatures before the full game comes out in September. Players can design just about any creature they can imagine, controlling the number of eyes, ears, arms, legs, and more. Why limit yourself to a regular bipedal beast when you can give it six arms and eight legs?

Adding things to the design doesn’t just make for looks. More legs equals more speed. More armor means more health, and more eyes can make your creature a charmer. Along with speed and charm, each creation will have various attacks and benefits based on what’s added.

The Spore website has a free version of the creature creator with about 20% of the full range of parts in the full price version.

Spore Creature Creator and Spore is being released in both PC and Mac versions at the same time. Yahoo!

Come visit my Spore page if you will and share yours back, here in the comments.

Don’t Go Naked in Second Life

Make your own clothes!

One of my busiest online contacts, Rose Fire Rising, is at it again. This time with a tutorial on making your own clothing in Second Life.

It’s a tutorial with pictures.  Necessary for us more visual thinkers. From the knickers out to the shirt, this tutorial takes you from basic creation through colorization, textures, and layering.  Highly recommended for those less skilled in SL design.

Small Worlds – Virtual World Newness

I took the chance to get an invite to a new virtual world, Small Worlds. Small Worlds is a bit different than you might expect.  In this day and age of 3-D this and that, with tons of fancy graphics, Small Worlds aims for content over 3-D. SmallWorldsSmall Worlds  starts you off with character design, with the focus on facial features.  You can pick shape, size, nose, hair, and more.  Variations to color and layering are available too.  From there you select your avatar and your initial residence.  Finally you are dropped into your virtual household.SmallWorlds - Todd Jordan's spaceAs you can see, the graphics are reminiscent of early 3-D/2-D games.  What it lacks in fancy though, it gives back in cool  You’ll notice next to my avatar a picture on the wall.  That picture is actually being pulled from my Flickr account.  The virtual display allows quite a flexible selection for pulling in from Flickr as well.It doesn’t end there.  YouTube videos can also be watched on your virtual television set.SmallWorlds - MO's Chill Box-2Shown above is a video from YouTube being displayed within the virtual tv.  As you  and others ‘watch’ a tv, one of you is given control of the remote.  The user with the remote gets to select the videos and which one is playing.Of the remaining features, one more I’d like to mention if the radio.  Are you a fan of Last.FM? Then you’ll enjoy this.  Radio/CD players can be purchased.  They actually play music.  Music play configuration is about selecting either an artist or a tag to search for music on Last.FM.  Once set, your playlist begins playing. The player is local to whatever space it is located in.  My room, Todd Jordan’s room, has the CD player set to ‘dance’ for the Last.FM tag.I look forward to giving this a thorough testing in the weeks ahead.  If you are on there already, please drop by and visit my place.  Do leave a comment here and I’ll come visit yours.  If you’d like to give it a try, contact me for an invite.
