The event is an Adventure Country Photo Experience. Come along for a free photograph of your whole family in adventure gear, to be included in the CMT Adventure Country online album.
Two of the new shows are Gator 911, premiering April 9 at 8c, and Danger Coast, premiering April 9 at 8:30c.
Disclosure: My wife and I are not only big fans of CMT, but I’m being compensated for promoting this event.
Beyond further cementing Danyelle’s The Cubicle Chick brand this event gave St. Louis chance to network at a local small business. Jilly’s was a great way to follow through on Danyelle’s promise to support locally owned businesses.
This social networking event succeeded as a tweetup, a foodie gathering, and more. I’ll be frank and say this is my first networking event with so many of our Black St. Louisans and Twitter peeps.
So often at events I’ve attended the mix is very Caucasian heavy. Oh there are a few people of different races mixed in but not near representative of the melting pot that St. Louis is. The metro area is not only home to a good mix of whites and blacks, but has a large mix of Asians, middle-easterners, and more.
St. Louis has one of the largest Bosnian enclaves in the US. The Korean community here has founded many churches and businesses. The list is endless of contributions by all races in our area.
It’s a blessing to see more diversity in local St. Louis events. I grew up here when forced segregation was still going on. I think this is a sign that things are finally moving along in our culture.
Danyelle is building her brand; if she’s willing, she can be an ambassador of change as well. I’m throwing down the gauntlet for my fellow St. Louisans to step up, bring it big, and get all of our citizens in the game.
If it looks like a party, it was. Fun folks, great conversation and cold beer made this a wonderful Tweetup. Jeffrey Strauss hosted this Twitter get together at the International Tap House in Chesterfield valley. It’s sort of the West County area of St. Louis Metro.
Yeah, that guy with the big grin is me. It was that much fun.
Jeffrey tossed the idea out just days before and it came to pass like clockwork. It was a good turn out with @VersaDave, @SandyShores, @MrShores, @StLConceirgeGuy, @SgtHotPants, @Rebecca_Rene, @donhead, @Nanna_J, and @Dizzy727. Folks came ready to chat, kick back and share.
The great thing about this tweetup is that Jeffrey isn’t some ’social media expert’, in fact he’s more a Belgium beer expert; you should ask him. People still have the misguided idea that only the heavy hitters in social networking can put events together, or if not that, then a group has to sponsor. That’s rubbish.
There were get togethers long before there were formal groups or formal leaders. Leaders emerge because they do things like plan events. Anyone can step up and lead.
St. Louis has a burgeoning social networking and media scene. There are lots of great folks doing fun, interesting, and educational events. Big or small, well attended or barely noticed, they still count as events.
Tired of waiting for one of these events to come to your neighborhood? Your peeps aren’t attending those for some reason?
Plan your own. Today. Now.
You’ll be surprised that when you step out, people will come alongside.
(This post inspired by Jeff and those that came before.)
Strange Folk is the Heartland’s largest outdoor indie arts and crafts show. We are featuring 125 vendors from across the country along with plenty of eco-freindly craft activities, exhibits, live bands, and local cuisine under a canopy of beautiful trees! Over 10,000 folks attended last year, and Strange Folk was declared “BEST OF 2008″ in the craft show category by The Riverfront Times.
Our vendors offer merchandise with aesthetics ranging from retro, pretty, punk, urban, and everything in between. All in price ranges that make it possible for anyone to afford a one-of-a-kind handmade creation. Besides our talented artisans, we strive for a variety of food and drink options, including coffee and vegetarian fare.
There are oodles of crafty activities for children and adults. As well as live music, and free Wi-Fi access available throughout the park. O’Fallon is just 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis, and easily accessible from both sides of the Mississippi.
Your family and friends will find the food, crafts and even the crafters interesting and fun. Knowing some of them personally, I can guarantee you’ll find something you can’t resist taking home.
I want to share one of my favorite online past times. It’s great when you’re bored or just want to enjoy some great eye candy. You can also get to know some interesting folks this way as well. I call it Flickr Fave Tripping.
Here’s how it works. Click on the favorites link:
This will take you to a page showing that person’s favorited pictures on Flickr. From there, find one you love yourself.
Favorite the picture you selected.
Display that person’s photo stream. Select the favorites link again and repeat.
Sounds silly and simple but I’ve found wonderful pictures and photographers that I’d never know if I only looked at my contacts’ pictures. Heck, stuff you’ll find this way often won’t make explore either.
Here’s my latest favorites, found all through playing this little game:
This weekend my wife and I are at the Tan Tar A Festivals of Marriage Conference. It’s all about getting closer to your spouse and encouraging better relationships. There are workshops, worship and even a concert thrown in.
Marriage and Balance is the theme this year. Part of being in balance is learning to have balance between the needs of each spouse, and the rest of their lives, including fun, sex, and raising kids.
In the spirit of that, Sharon and I took some fun time for ourselves today. Our fun took outlet of shopping. The picture above is part of how we made the most of Dogpatch, one of the out of the way places we stopped to peruse.
We discovered this little shop had the biggest collection of cool hats. Please check out the hat slideshow and laugh with us.
