Living Vicariously through Flatness

from Case-Notes from the Artsy Asylum.

Susan Reynolds, one of my favorite online people, shares the story of a great artist networking project. She and several other artists have been part of this project, inspired by the Flat Stanley Books Living Vicariously through Flatness *.  I won’t steal her thunder here, but lets just say it involves flat people representations of the artists and a traveling bus.

You might already be one of those artists, or been in a similar project.  The project has been extended by reaching out to not just people they’ve met in person or worked with, but to their online contacts.  The next artist might be you.

Another great person, Ann, @annOhio to some, is all about social networking online and off.  She’s got a brand new blog up dedicated to it.  Check it out.

So what social projects are you engaged in? Pen pal? Postcards? Sending flat people cross-country in a bus?  Driving or flying there yourself?

*The Flat Stanley Book Series Living Vicariously through Flatness  by Jeff Brown has become a huge educational boon, encouraging kids to read, write and think creatively. They send Flat Stanley to other people who take photos of him doing different interesting things. Then Stanley and his photo-journal gets returned to his home base. Flat Stanley has been on every continent and it is entertainingly documented on an ongoing basis.

Frozen Pea Fund is going 501(c)3 Nonprofit!

Susan Reynolds and Connie Reece today announced the move to incorporate the Frozen Pea Fund as a nonprofit.  Congratulations on this move Susan and Connie.

Before this week, Susan and Connie had not met in person.  This video is the culmination of their efforts together on this project so far.  I’m excited to see what comes next.

Cheers!

The Frozen Pea Fund was inspired by Susan Reynold’s personal cancer experience.  It is a fund raising site, working with the American Cancer Society. Please visit and consider a donation.

Life in Social Media Circles

Or how to have a good time and never leave your chair.

Let’s see..one night was ooVoo night with @annOhio of Twitter fame. Let us just say that certain hijinks were had and much laughter was involved.

Then there was the evening with Yahoo Live Jam session with @spin, @technosailor and @geekgirltv, and more. That was held here.

Today there was even more ooVoo fun with Connie Reece and Susan Reynolds talking about social media and general silliness.snapshot2 Life in Social Media Circles

So you see, you can have a cheery good time without going very far. Oh, there were other chit chats and such, but video ruled the weekend online.

Check out ooVoo and Yahoo! Live for yourself. Let me know when you’re on and I’ll join you.

Frozen Pea Fund Map

Have you donated to the Frozen Pea Fund yet? Don’t know what it is? Well you can read the long story here, but the gist is that the Frozen Pea Fund raises money for the American Cancer Society in honor of Susan Reynolds and her cancer battle. Many people were drawn to support the Frozen Pea Fund, not just local friends of Susan’s but people from all across the world. In an effort to capture just what that means, a Frappr map was created for donators to put their mark on.  The map is here. It is amazing to watch as each person’s avatar pops up and is then replaced by the next.  It is immediately obvious how wide spread support has been.  This unique visual representation is meant to give people a feel for that. Please take a moment out to follow the link to the map, and perhaps to the blog, where you can donate if you’d like.
